This morning we went for a walk with Parker and his mom, Holly, on the floodplain near the Forest Society. The kids spent most of the time whacking trees with sticks and poking at abandoned mole tunnels. They threw twigs into the swollen Merrimack River and dug in the sand. They also romped in the tall dry grasses, and Peter pulled the first tick of the season off of Jasper's back at bath time. Oops. I was reminded that outdoor play in the summer comes with a range of conditions and cautions. I'm still thinking mittens and hats. I need to switch gears to bug spray and sunscreen.
