Countdown to Victory

We were with him back in July. We were with him a year ago. And soon, I believe, many other citizens here in NH and around the country will be there, too. I am ready to vote, and ready for this primary to be done so we can move on to other pursuits... like the general election! It has been an amazing experience, to say the least. Today Peter let me do the canvassing while he and Jasper had a "papa day." They dug tunnels and engaged in "adventure sledding" in the woods behind our house, while Josie and I wooed voters in Ward 2. It's amazing how many people are still "undecided." Hopefully we swung one or two. It's hard to say no to Josie. On my way to canvas, I felt an overwhelming appreciation for the level of political engagement there is here at this moment. How unfortunate that every community in the country, every citizen, is not this engaged. What would it take to get everyone as involved and feeling as influential as folks in NH feel in these final days? Now THAT would be a democracy. The 69 year old state rep who is hosting our get out the vote effort says she has never felt this much excitement or urgency during a primary. She was a registered Republican her entire life, switched party affiliations last year and is a huge Obama girl. I tell ya, I think he's going to do it.

While Peter is working 12 hour days for four days (Sat - Tues), we are keeping ourselves busy here at home. Tasha spent the day with us on Friday while Sarah had a "cook day." Jasper spent day three in his batman costume. They played fabulously the entire day. It is fascinating to see how his play changes depending on his playmate. With boys he either plays with balls or cars, makes loud noises, and tries to engage in "fights" (swords, wrestling, chasing, you name it). With girls he puts on hats, carries around purses, nurses his stuffed animals, and plays "house" in which he is either the daddy or the baby, depending on what they want him to be. When on his own? The sky's the limit. Sometimes he plays house with his trucks, tucks them into bed, puts them in time out, etc.. This morning he was playing in the kitchen while we waited for the two Obama volunteers in our living room to wake up. Peter brought in a huge box of multicolored legos. It was a hand-me-down from the Hipples, but probably cost over $30 new. Jasper said, "That's boring. I want my rocket." His rocket is a piece of clear red plastic that we found in a free box at a yard sale. He then played imaginary games with his rocket for twenty minutes. Go figure.

Yesterday Erica and I took the boys (and baby girl) skiing for the first time this year, while our husbands were consumed by the primary. The outing was a great success until the last 15 minutes when they started elbowing each other and fighting over whos mother was "mushing." Much crying followed and we made it back to the cars just in time to avoid bloodshed. Josie slept in the bjorn the entire time.

Great turnout for the primary! It sounds like you've been working very hard on the campaign. And you should feel good about that.

We took the kids up to our mountains last weekend to sled for an afternoon. It was the best!

Happy New Year!
