We had a magical weekend at Family Camp. Peter has been going to "Family Camp" with his mother since he was little. The tradition started as a week during the summer and now continues as a weekend in the winter. Children of all ages gather at the Hulbert Outdoor Center is Fairlee, VT to share in the pursuit of relaxation and fun. We eat, sing, nap, play games, play (lots and lots of) music, play barn hockey, ski, skate, walk, talk, knit, read, build with snow, throw snow, oggle babies... or just do NOTHING for a weekend (including NOT cook, and NOT wash dishes). All this in the midst of good company who ask great questions, listen well, and appreciate each other
(and each others' children... I ate almost every meal as an independent adult!). It's a spectacular way to spend time. We had ideal weather conditions (plenty of snow, not too cold, sunny skies), and got the kids outside every day. I completed my "tertium centennial" (third of a century) triathalon: skating around the lake, skiing up to the Winships lookout, and taking a 33 1/3 minute power nap. Night sleeping conditions were not so favorable, but Jasper was very proud of his bed on the TOP BUNK (which he still managed to climb out of at four in the morning to join me and Josie in my single bottom bunk). Any and all friends and relatives are invited for future Winter Family Camp gatherings. No "family" necessary.
We returned to more snow (surprise, surprise), but warmer temperatures that are ideal for sugaring (the sap runs when the temperature is below freezing at night and in the 40s during the day). I eventually managed to convince Jasper that he should play outside with me in the snow, and an hour later had a tough time convincing him that he should come in and eat lunch. Here he is attempting to microwave snow in his mostly buried kitchen. I am beginning to visualize a day when we play outside most of the time!

Wonderful to hear about Family Camp was! I'm remembering my time last year, and how much fun we had :0)
