As you can tell, we have been on vacation and travelling for the past week. In this time we have been to South Hadley, MA to celebrate Christmas with Oma (aka Antonia, Peter's mother) and David and Aunt Susie (Antonia's sister who lives in a cabin she built entirely with her own two hands in northern Maine and who we, the entire family, sees only once a year), driven eight hours straight down the eastern seaboard on Christmas eve to celebrate Christmas with my family in DC, and traveled up to PA and back again to celebrate the season at David's family party on the 26th. In this time we have seen well over a dozen cousins (I am too tired to count), sung well over a dozen carols, and WELL over a dozen gifts, while gaining close to a dozen pounds between the four of us. Jasper and Josie have been real troupers, functioning on very little sleep and very rich food. The low point of the trip was after our dinner at Roy Rogers on the Jersey Turnpike when Jasper started hitting himself repeatedly in the head and chanting, "I want to go home!" But most of the time he has had a blast playing with friends and cousins (and uncles and aunts and grandparents!). He got his first kiss from Maggie, a rather fast four year old across the street from my parent's house (followed by a huge grin and the declaration: "Mama, Maggie says next time... sleep over!"). Josie has will pass up her fussy hour for a party with loud music and lots of people any day, and she is really turning into a full fledged BABY. We are due to drive to NY on Sunday or Monday to ring in the New Year with friends in Brooklyn, most likely playing Catan and whispering while Jasper sleeps on the bed next to us in a studio apartment. When we return to NH on the first, I will try to post some pictures of our adventures with descriptions of the highlights.
As for the rest of the twelve days of Christmas... I'm too tired to even think about it.
