We are in DC with my folks for ten days. We arrived on Saturday and almost immediately headed out to the Bay for the afternoon. Dad was sailing in a regatta, so we awaited his victorious return on the beach. Josie ate sand and popped sea shells into her mouth while Jasper splashed around in the murky, brackish water and collected dead crabs. A three year old Riviera. Near the end of our afternoon, Jasper declared, "Well, we'll have to come back to this place some time." Sunday we had a leisurely morning and then went to a Nats game at the new baseball stadium. They were playing their arch rivals, the Baltimore Orioles, so the place was pretty packed. We didn't arrive until the 7th inning stretch and the score was tied 1 - 1. Storms brewed in every direction as the sun beat down and we literally cooked in our seats. Jasper whined, Josie cried, we were all sweating and thirsty. Then the game went into extra innings. Five of them. We finally agreed to leave, at Jasper's insistance. As we were making our way to the exit it was the bottom of the 13th. The Os were up by one. The Nats had two outs and one man on first. Then the batter (I forget who) hit a home run. They won. We all agreed it was the best game ever. Jasper now has favorite team in the National League.
I am teaching at my old summer camp this week while Meme and Pepe watch the kids. When I returned from work today Jasper and Josie were sitting with Pepe on the couch watching TV and guzzling apple juice. Heaven. Needless to say, no one complains when I leave for work in the mornings. It was a true joy taking Jasper swiming today in the same pool where I learned to swim 30 years ago. It should be a good week. Though we miss Papa like crazy.
