A Trip Around the Sun

Today Jasper began his week of birthday celebrations with a ceremony at school. I was not invited to stay (big people take up so much room), but the teacher took some pictures and Jasper came home with a stellar birthday crown (which he has already destroyed). The Montessori celebration reinforces geography with a song about traveling around the sun. The birthday boy gets to hold a globe and walk around the sun, held by a friend of choice, once for each year he has been alive. Our celebration tomorrow night is a bit less educational, centering around pizza, cake and Spider man. The best riot is to ask Jasper how old he will be and then patiently wait while he struggles to get the correct three fingers to stand straight up, which takes a solid minute. He really is seeming so grown up. Running, jumping, climbing everything, asking politely, dressing himself, serving supper and helping clear the table... His two year old tantrums still surface, but in a manageable quantity and intensity. Is this just a kind phase, or are we really through the terrible two's?
