Peter whisked the kids off to the ocean today so I could focus on grades and preparing for my first fifth grade graduation. A stunning early summer day, as crisp and perfect as a hand picked macintosh apple in October. Josie's playspot of choice these days is the sandbox, where she can spend up to an hour digging and pouring on her own, lost in musings on dispacement and permanence. She was supposedly completely taken by the enormous, endless sandbox next to the ocean. The kids both played well for hours, even allowing Peter time to get up on the surf board a few times (while Ethan and Jackson kept them company). They came back exhausted, cranky (after ice cream treats) and caked with sand. I can't wait to return with them and try my own hand at digging and surfing.
Peter had a great day and everyone made it home in one piece, but now he lies once again incapacitated from a pinched nerve, or something, in his neck. He's headed to PT on Monday. So far nothing 1,000 mg of tylenol can't handle.
