Jasper lost his first tooth a few days before his fifth birthday. The second one is good to go any day now. A grown up tooth is pushing through at an angle, foretelling braces. We went to the dentist to get two fillings on his second and third cavities. He was an hour in the chair, body flinching and contorting from time to time, but he never cried. Never peeped. My brave little boy.
We took Josie to the dentist for her first visit the other day, figuring we may be out of insurance soon, so why not. I was nervous about the visit, but she was stoic and stellar the entire time. They found an abscess behind the root of her front baby tooth. The tooth would have to go. Yikes. We scheduled an appointment with the pediatric dentist today, and I had 24 hours to convince Josie that pulling her tooth out was a wonderful thing. She would have a visit from the tooth fairy, just like Jasper! She bought it and was calm as August through the entire visit. Waiting in the chair. Sitting through another exam. Walking down the hall to the operating room. Putting the nitrogen oxide inhaler on her nose. Getting the Novocain. Until the dentist actually had to pull it out. Then she cried. Briefly. Until the assistant told her she could pick out a prize. My brave little girl.
We'll have a good few years of goofy smiles.
