Moving On Up

This was a Big weekend. The weekend Josie moved in to her Big Girl Bed, and Jasper moved up into the biggest, most drop dead gorgeous loft bed you have ever seen or dreamed of. As we prepared the room for the project, Josie broke down into tears each time we removed another piece of furniture from her room. Despite weeks of conversations about the move, she would complain, "My crib! No move my crib!" Or "My changing table put back!" After weeks of asking when he would finally get his loft bed, on Friday night Jasper declared, "I never ever want to sleep in a different bed. I LOVE this bed." I bought a new mattress, sheets and snugglies to ease the pain of transition, and everyone seemed excited about the change by the time moving day arrived. Oma and Pop Pop, the home improvement team, arrived on Saturday morning to assemble the loft he had spent every evening last week building in his shop. After 6 hours of sawing, assembling, adjusting, mounting, sanding and perfecting, the bed was done. The kids were besides themselves, excited and thrilled. But it was still a rough first night in the loft. Josie slept like a log and bragged about it in the morning, but Jasper woke up four times. This evening Jasper went to bed eagerly, but Josie refused to go to bed for perhaps the first time in her life. Change is unsettling, even if it means you have the coolest bed on the block.
